Events & Quests
Events and Quests are active mechanics for roots of the wild. Participating in these functions are one of the main ways to earn character slots. In addition members can gain armor, weapons, tokens, and special items through these.

Events
Events are large, inescapable occurrences within Roots of the Wild that affect all characters, whether they like it or not! Events will very often cause changes to mechanics, like the weather, daily rolls, and the abilities of some classes to perform their class skill. Any changes of this magnitude do not go unnoticed, so do not worry, you'll be given warning! While the event is occurring, new temporary mechanics may come in to play, so be ready for some new experiences! Of course, such events are often great fodder for some art or role play scenarios too, so take full advantage while you can! As is the nature of events in life, in roots, these are temporary, so either enjoy the ride, or gather your provisions and camp it out, and either way it will be over before you know it!
How Events Work
Due to the nature of events, each one will have its own custom set of rules and details. As a blanket statement, most quest rules also apply to event rules in some way.
Similar to Quests, there are different types of events that will be held; be it art or interactive.
All rules and information surrounding an event will be clarified at the time of said event.
Quests
In Roots of the Wild, quests are smaller, optional, fun timed tasks anyone can partake in for a nifty reward! Quests take one of three forms: art/ writing, interactive, and role play. Art/ writing quests take the form of a prompt that you will be expected to work with, offering a reward for a submission of suitable effort which would be detailed in the quests description, and yes, collabs are often allowed! Interactive quests are usually additional rolls done in one of our community servers, you will often be given a command to input unique to the quest, and will be able to follow along the commands as they come to you!
Rewards for these tend to take the form of what ever you get from your directed rolls, with additional prizes often tied to someone finding particular hidden things! Finally, role play quests are larger group role plays, often with Mod direction or at least a mod opening prompt. Rewards are given for adequate participation, but those who go above and beyond will also be given their due! While these are the three usual types, on occasion special quests may happen that take entirely new formats, so expect those to be explained in greater detail when they come!
Quests will always have a time limit and will give an explicit date and time for both the start and end of the quest.

Every other month, when quests occur, they will be posted in the 🔑》quests-board channel, as well as a blog post here on the site!

Members are REQUIRED to sign up for quests via the Quest Sign Up Form

Quest Rules
-
As of 8/1/2023 - Members are only allowed to sign up for ONE of the member capped quests. (If there are 3 quests that have a member cap, the member can only sign up for one of the 3). If the quest does not fill up within a week of being open - those who have already signed up for other quests will then be able to sign up for other member capped quests.

Art, Writing, and Interactive quests have no deadline for signups as long as they are still running.

RP Quests have a signup window of one week after the date the quest is posted.

RP Quests have a 15-20 minimum post amount to qualify for the rewards of said RP Quest. The total will be specified per quest.

RP quests also have a 2 paragraph maximum. Do not post more than 2 paragraphs in your posts.

You may join rp quests with multiple oc as long as you have the time to keep up with multiples in posting order unless stated otherwise. However you may only roll for special rewards from the first quest you join to make sure everyone has a fair chance to win.

Event and Quest RPs which have a preexisting set reward, whether or not it includes tokens, cannot be submitted for additional token rewards.

RP quests are meant to be mainly member-driven, so mods will typically not be directing, but if you are stuck and need a nudge to move things along, use the @TaleWeaver tag
Quest Vouchers
Sometimes quests get posted and members are unable to sign up for the member capped ones before they fill up. In order to make things a bit more fair for those who miss sign ups, the mod team has come up with a Quest Voucher System.
How it works: If a member was unable to participate in 2 consecutive member capped quests, and have previously signed up for them; they are eligible for a Quest Voucher. To claim this voucher they must DM the Admin Account and mark somewhere in a tracker.
What the voucher does, is guarantees the holder a spot in the next round of member capped quests. The voucher holder has 1 week (or less if the quest calls for it, the mod team will clarify at the time of the quest) to sign up before that spot is open to the rest of the group.

With the villages being cleared of blight and new cases of infection being so rare, talk of further progress has begun amongst the villagers and their leadership. There are still many questions that need to be answered...
Blight Eyes have been seen connected to patches of Blight in the wilderness past the safety of the village outskirts. Through some experimentation, it was discovered that these 'eyes' were connected like a spider in a web to their different patches, and once destroyed, the connected Blight lacked the power to sustain itself and disintegrated into the air. This discovery brought hope and determination to many.
It is now the task of those brave enough to venture out with expeditions from their villages and clear the roads... it is now time to answer one of the main questions burning in everyone's minds: Do the other villages still stand?
Starting now (Sha Warvo 8th 1000 AB / July 9th, 2021) and running until the goal is reached, members will be working to clear the roads and open up travel again between the villages!
Gathering activities will continue as normal throughout the event!

Description
In the world of Roots many believe that during a certain time of the year the veil between the world of the living and the dead becomes thinner and spirits escape from the realm beyond to roam the land of Hyrule.
Some believe that lighting lanterns each night, dressing up and carving fortified pumpkins with frightening faces scare away these wandering spirits and keep them at bay... some believe that it shows acknowledgement of the lives of their enemies they've defeated over the seasons and keeps them only coming back as stals instead of wraiths and poltergeists.
Whatever the belief, it's sure to be a fun and creative time!
Draw any of your OCs dressed up to participate in this event! You may design things however you like, as long as all materials used to make the costume are things your OC could feasibly be able to collect or come across in-world.
You can count this as canon or non-canon, whichever fits best with your OC!

The Hot Springs Party

Description
Couriers carried letters across the three villages, to everyone who would take them, with a simple message “Come to the Rudania Springs for an all night party to celebrate weathering the storm of attacks! Drinks, chats, more~”
Paachi, the shiekan blacksmith of Rudania, having sent these letters was busy preparing for the events. Furniture donated from villagers, liquor brewed in vast quantities, meats caught and ready for cooking, veggies too, seasoned and ready for those who prefer not to eat meat. This was going to be one hell of a party!

Description
More than a year has passed since the dreaded Blight Bloom. Over time, more trials and hardships have reared their heads, but Inariko still stands strong despite the challenges.
As a village which thrives in tradition, Inariko has decided to revisit the celebration of survival and lifting hopes from last year, and invite anyone from Vhintl and Rudania who wishes to travel to their central location to join in as well!
The whole village is putting together a great feast featuring local specialty cuisine, music and entertainment befitting the local style, and a wide-open dance floor that beckons! They've also invited those from other villages to bring foods and traditions from their regions to help liven things up. A true gathering of friends across cultures.
