Exploring is a mechanic in Roots in which characters can explore the unknown areas of the map. In doing so interesting landmarks can be found! Treasures may be uncovered! And some fearsome monsters may be encountered
At this time only Eldin, Lanayru, and Faron can be explored.

Info
Squares and Quadrants

The map is divided into a grid with each square named by a combination of letters A-J and numbers 1-12 (examples: A1, F8, D11, etc.). Each of these squares is further divided into four quadrants for exploration purposes.
All four quadrants must be explored before the characters can move onto the next main square. (You cannot explore A2 until all of A1 has been explored).
There are multiple different events that can occur in each quadrant, some of which are as follows:
-
Chance of Blighting
-
Chance to Gather
-
Chance to Encounter Monsters
-
Chance to Reveal Certain Things!
-
Each unexplored quadrant requires 2 stamina to explore. Quadrants are considered explored when certain conditions are met.
Unless a quadrant is secured, characters must re-explore that quadrant anytime they pass back through it. There are pros and cons to this! You might find something new, but you also might get attacked by a monster or become blighted.
Quadrant Status
Unexplored: A character must use 2 stamina to explore this quadrant
Explored: A character/party has explored this quadrant and can do multiple things. This also makes it visible on the map.
Secured: This quadrant is now Secured! A path has been paved and it can be traveled through without encountering monsters or having a chance of being blighted.
Stamina
Stamina is consumed while exploring via the following methods:
-
Initial exploration of a quadrant
-
Paving a path
-
Exploring ruins
-
Shrines
KO’s And Running out of Stamina

When a member of the party rolls the above prompt, this only applies to the party member who rolled it—not the entire party. The amount of hearts lost will be that party member's hearts. (e.g., Ankle is KO'd! He had 3 hearts. The party loses 3 hearts.)
-
A fairy or tonic must be used in this case to revive that party member.
-
Party KO's only happen if all collective hearts are lost.
-
All items collected and brought are lost upon the loss of all hearts.
-
Any quadrants marked as Explored return to Unexplored status.
-
Your character/party is KO’d if they lose all of their collective hearts while on the road. If this happens, your character wakes back up in the village they began exploring from with 0 hearts and 0 stamina. From this point, for an entire week, your character receives a debuff where they are unable to use any healing or stamina items as well as the services of healers. Characters are also unable to explore during this time as they need to recover their strength. There may be an option to remove this debuff in the future with the help of a boosting perk.
-
After the week-long debuff is over, your character can use any healing and stamina recovery items to get back to full stats. During the debuff period, your character does recover stamina normally, 1 a day.
-
If your character runs out of stamina while exploring and cannot make it back home, they are stuck there until they recover the appropriate amount of stamina; meaning the character must camp out in the wild. During this time, they must roll on the /tableroll camping table to see what happens during their stay in the wilds. Fill out the form after the camping table has been rolled.

Description:
Parties
-
Expeditions can be done alone or in parties of up to four.
-
Each character can only bring 1 set of armor (what they are wearing) and 3 items.
-
When exploring in a party, there is a shared amount of Stamina and Hearts; this is all the parties' Stamina and Hearts added together.
-
When exploring, everyone in the party rolls in a predetermined order until the “You have explored this area” prompt shows up.
-
The person in the party who rolls a gatherable item keeps the item they gathered.
-
A predetermined order will be established for the rolling order before the party sets out on their expedition. This can be done by rolling a die or just deciding beforehand.
-
At the start of the expedition, each character's stamina, hearts, and items must be individually posted. This only needs to be done once.
-
Once an expedition is over, any remaining hearts and stamina will be evenly divided among the group. If there is not enough to evenly divide among the group, the members will roll a die of their choice to see who gets the remaining stats. If there is too much, any extra is discarded.

↳ Continue to Explore the same Quadrant ⇒ /tableroll exploreRegion (cost 1🟩)
↳ Return to Village
Note: The party member that is the last to roll something is the one responsible for filling out any corresponding forms (Ex. Ankle is the one to defeat a monster, Ankle would fill out he monster form)
Mount Exploring
At this time Mount Exploring is not an option
Basic Mounts have 2 Stamina 🥕🥕
Mid Mounts have 4 Stamina 🥕🥕🥕🥕
High Mounts have 6 Stamina 🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕
Monster Encounters
When monsters are encountered, each person in the party rolls to fight the monster in the same established order as before. The person who lands the killing blow is the one who earns the loot, unless it is a high-tier monster where each party member rolls for loot.
Even though hearts are shared while exploring, a KO'd character is skipped in the rolling order during monster encounters until a fairy or tonic is used to revive them.
When fighting tier 5 monsters and below, sometimes a prompt that states something along the lines of "you fight back!" may appear. When this happens, the next character in the rolling line rolls, not the same character who just rolled.
Retreat
During tier 5 and above monster encounters, parties have the option to retreat at any time during the battle.
Retreating is not always garunteed but the party can continue to attempot tp retreat as long as they have the stamina.
Each retreat attempt costs 1 Stamina 🟩
Parties can use the /tableroll retreat command

Healing
Fairies revive the amount of hearts of the party member with the highest heart count. For example, if three of the party members have 3 hearts each, and one party member has 5, the fairy will heal 5 hearts.
Fairy Tonics heal the entire party's hearts.
When using the Rest option, this both heals the entire party and revives any KO'd party members.
Parties can heal during tier 5 and above monster encounters. Anything else must be done when prompted. The healing item form must be used here.
Items
During Expeditions each party member is allowed to bring 3 healing items each.
In addition they can bring bundles of materials for paving roads on secured quadrants.
5 Eldin Ore = 1 Bundle = 1 item slot
10 wood = 1 Bundle = 1 item slot
This means healing item space must be sacrificed if members want to secure quadrants.

Steps
Expeditions will take place in the #🌍》exploring channel. All expeditions must be done in a thread titled as such: Exploring | Party Name / Members. In addition discussion about planning expeditions can be done in #🌍》exploring-discussion.
Parties have 24 hours from the start of their expedition to complete their journey and submit a report.
1. Form a party and have each member of the party post the following form:

Hearts: ❤️❤️❤️
Stamina: 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

The next party member in line continues to roll.
3d. IF SPECIAL DISCOVERY:

Parties may encounter special things such as monster camps or find ruins. Follow the prompts.
The next party member in line continues to roll.
4. You have explored this area. What will you do next?

Once the roll "You have explored this area. What will you do next?" has been rolled, the party has a couple options.

Securing a Quadrant means that it will be locked from future exploration, but it can be traveled through without risking monster encounters or blighting.
Parties are required to pay 5 Stamina, 500 tokens, 10x wood and 5x Eldin Ore to pave a path. The party HAS to bring the items on the expedition to pave a path.
When securing a Quadrant please decide which member will be paying the 500 token fee.
After the Quadrant has been Secured, the form for exploring the next chosen quadrant must be filled out.

4e. IF RETURN TO VILLAGE

After a certain point, it is a good idea to plan to head back to the village. Parties can choose to return the way they came to avoid using extra stamina, or they can go through unexplored quadrants for extra chances to find something new.
If traveling back the way the party came, this can be done in one form (as long as each quadrant is secured); if not, a form per quadrant must be filled out.
Reminder: it does cost stamina to re-travel through unsecured quadrants, and the party MUST roll until the "explored area" prompt is given, even when returning to the village.
