So you’ve probably seen OCs with birds or remilts and have wondered “How do I get one of these cool lil pals for my own OC?” or maybe you haven’t! Either way this page aims to answer that question and more.

Regular Pets

Even a setting like that of Roots of the Wild wouldn’t be complete without animal companions to keep your OCs company. Thankfully getting regular ol’ pets is as easy as deciding they have one!

So what counts as a regular pet? Most regular animals found in Hyrule that you’d think might count! This includes a wide variety of creatures such as cats and dogs, frogs, lizards, birds, ferrets, rabbits, most domestic farm animals such as cucco and sheep and then some! If you’re unsure if your pet idea qualifies, ask the mod team!

There are of course some hard exceptions to what is allowed. Not everything can be a regular pet, as some of Hyrule’s more unique, rare or larger creatures aren’t so simple to come by. Additionally, smaller and simpler creatures such as snails or insects may simply not qualify.

Some wild animals, like wolves and coyote, are far too wild to ever keep without the proper training and attention that would make them perk pets! Others, like remlits, are incredibly rare to encounter in the first place!

Animals such as horses, donkey, deer, and mountain goats fall under the Mounts category and must be tamed first. Check the Mounts Page to see the full list!

And lastly, small monsters such as chuchu, keese or walltula simply cannot be kept as pets under normal circumstances. Once obtained through special means, they must be hand raised with care.

Perks Pets

Perk Pets is a feature of Roots of the Wild in which an OC may have specific unique or uncommon pets with the ability to roll in the town hall channels regardless of your OC’s Job!

This category is where you may find the rarer creatures like remlits, small monsters like chuchu and difficult animals like wolves!

HOW'S IT WORK?

320px-SS_Remlits_Render.png
  • Pets gained as Quest, Event or Rolling rewards will come with at least level 1 perks, which will allow them to roll for items!

  •  Each level = 1 Roll per Week  (Capped at 3 Levels MAX attainable)

  • At present, Perk Pets are limited to one per OC!

PERKS TRAINING

Members may also pay for Pet Training in the shops to level up their existing Perks Pets, or add perks to a normal pet! (In story, this will be a result of your OC training them, with the Tokens paid representing that time and effort). Make sure your pet is something that can be trained, as some pets are better suited to training than others. If you aren’t sure about your specific pet, you can ask a mod! Additionally, training levels can only be bought one at a time, starting at the lowest level and going up!

So.. How do you train your pet? It's easy!

1. Head on over to the Shops page.

2. Find the listing for the correct pet training level and purchase it. If you’re training a basic pet (Lv.0), you pick Lv.1, if you’re training a pet that's already Lv.1, you pick Lv.2, and so on.

3. Be sure to have enough tokens to cover the training, as the token fee symbolizes the time your character has put into training their pet in the Roots world. Log this in your Token Tracker!

4. Notify mods in the #community-board of your purchase with your pet's **species**, **name**, **level** and a '@mod' tag so we can update records and give you any additional information you may need!

5. Enjoy your new pet perks!

When training, the mods will let you know which table(s) your pet is able to roll on based on its size and abilities! When purchasing pet training specifically, please @mod in the #community board, and let us know what pet is getting trained, and what it's name is!

PET RETIREMENT

In the event that a member tires of their OC's Perk Pet and wishes to train another, they need only follow this step:

Notify mods in the #community-board that you are **Retiring your Perk Pet** with your pet's **species**, **name** and a '@mod' tag so we can update records. Once this action is taken, you will be unable to roll the retired pet.

Any new perk pets must be trained from scratch.
(Retired Perk Pets may eventually be swapped back in but the process for this is still TBD.)

So basically....

  • Quest/Event & Rolling: These reward pets often come with perks, but they may be able to be trained to do more.

  • Basic/Common: When the feature is released, these more basic pets such as dogs, cats, birds, etc. may be trained to roll and become perks pets! Your rolling options will be limited to what makes sense for your particular pet to be able to do.

Records for currently qualified pets, along with what they can roll for & how many times per week are 📌 Pinned in the village townhall channels!

Chuchu (and Other Such) Eggs

Chuchu are one of the few monster pets that are available via an egg item outside of special events! These eggs have a rare chance to be found via rolling tables, but they can also be created! See more below.

Once you have a Chuchu Egg (or other pet egg via reward), hatching it is simple! Either DM Roots.Admin or tag @mod in the #community-board. You'll need to provide the following information: OC name, Pet Name, and a link to where you got it from (Roll, Gift, Exchange, etc) for our records.

  • All hatched chuchu start at Lv1 with /tableroll petchu. This changes to the elemental equivalent upon elemental upgrade.

  • Mods will react with a ☑️ on all related #community-board posts upon approval.

Creating Chuchu Eggs

To create a Chuchu Egg, one must compress x100 chuchu jellies of any one color.
For this exchange, post the following in the #community-board:

**__CHUCHU EGG EXCHANGE__**
**OC NAME** compresses 100 [color] Chuchu Jelly to create a Chuchu Egg!

Pet Chuchu Elements

Unlike other perk pets, Chuchu have the potential to change their element to adapt to the region they live in! The initial change must be instigated via an elemental item. This item must be discarded after use. Once a chuchu is in it's elemental state, it cannot return to the original default form. An elemental chuchu that moves officially to a new region with it's owner will always take on the element of that region.
