Do not God Mod, and do not Metagame.
- God modding is taking control of other OC's actions against the will of the OC's owner. This includes assuming what other OCs would do in hypothetical or noncanon situations against the will of the OC's owner.
- Metagaming is giving your OC information they do not have access to - for instance knowing the backstory of an OC they haven't met and who's owner you haven't gotten permission from. Even in cases where it's feasible your OC could know private information about another OC, you must first get permission from the owner of the OC in question.

Do not message the personal accounts of the mods regarding questions or concerns about the group. Instead send questions or concerns to the 🔔》faq-and-suggestions channel.
- For more in depth issues, send a message to (Roots.Admin#9069) and let us know in brief what the issue is.
- If you do not want to message the admin account, the option of messaging the group owner, Ruutuli, is available to those who want more privacy and anonymity.

Art Theft will not be tolerated in RotW
- This includes tracing the existing works of other artists without permission/credit and claiming it as your own for any purpose, be it for selling, app art, or for group participation.
- Added onto this, we consider AI art presented as personal works to be a form of art theft, and thus will not be allowing AI generated images to be used for apps or other group participation. You may, however, share AI generated imagery for inspiration and ideas if you choose.

As of 7/11/2023 ROTW has put a 60 member cap on the server.
- Travelers (potential members) have 2 weeks from their join date to become full members or will be removed from the group.
- As of 7/1/2024: The mod team has decided to implement a stricter policy for activity checks: members who are inactive for three consecutive checks will be removed from the group. This replaces the previous one-year inactivity rule. This change has been made to address the ongoing issue of reaching the member cap in Roots.

- Do not discuss real-world animal abuse or death. (You may mention in server that a pet passed, but please keep it vague and don't include any traumatic details)
- Any descriptions of your OCs hunting should be kept vague! Don't describe injuries inflicted on animals. Say something like "Hunter shot the deer with an arrow, taking it down!" And leave it at that. Any mention of what happened after should not be more descriptive than mentioning "Hunter skinned the deer and prepared the meat". Keep to simple facts, no gruesome details.

➽ Members will typically not be given warnings for mentioning these things (unless the mention is graphic), but you may be asked to stop, and your messages may be deleted! If you do not stop when asked, you may then be warned. Please do your part to keep Roots a safe escape from the stresses of the world by avoiding these and other heavy real-world topics!

➽ Remember, you can always use the "Windfish Says No" safe phrase to stop any conversation that's triggering you or pushing your boundaries! Just type the phrase itself or a message containing the phrase, and the bot will do the rest.

1ST - A bot warning with a 1 hour mute.

Rule breaking will result in an official warning.
Subsequent rule breaking after a warning will result in disciplinary action depending on the severity of the offense, up to and including being banned from the group.

I’ve only played BOTW, can I still join?

Yep! You can join no matter how much you know about Zelda lore. You can even join if you haven't played any of the Zelda games at all!
Do I have to be an artist to join?

Nope! We welcome anyone who’s generally creative and loves roleplay!
Can I commission my app art to be drawn?

Yep! Credit the artist when using their art for your app however!
Can I submit commissioned art of my oc?

Yep! Credit the artist and make sure to have their permission. Note: You cannot submit commissioned art for tokens!
Will the group only be open for a specific amount of time?

Because of demand we have set a 60 member limit, when spaces open we generally update the website ASAP but you can always submit your info into the waitlist form and you’ll be contacted the moment a spot opens up!
Does my character have to use the travel mechanic to move villages?

Yes, in order to move you’ll need to use the mechanic during the process!
I don’t see the race I want to use listed. Does that mean I can't use it?

Generally, Yes. But we are planning on introducing more races over the course of the group, as more and more is uncovered of Hyrule. The race you want may become available in the near future!
Can my character be mixed race?

Yes, but these are currently limited to being Sheikah/Hylian, as Gerudo will always have a full-blooded Gerudo child. Gorons, Zora, and Rito cannot crossbreed with other species. As more races become available however, more combinations might become possible!
Can my character be royalty or related to a canon character?

The time of royalty has long passed, so there is no such thing as royalty in Roots, but you can say your character has royal blood or royal ancestors. Your character cannot be a direct descendant of a canon character, but you can state your character is distantly related to Link, Zelda, Sidon, etc. Keep in mind however that Hyrule’s history is all but lost in Roots’ world due to the destruction the Blight has caused for a millenia.
I read that Zora are commonly from Inariko. Does that mean my Zora character has to be from there?

Inariko is just where the majority of Zora live! Your character can still be from any of the starting villages! This goes for all the races in the group, they can be from any village despite where the majority is said to hail from!
Does my character have to live in one of the ‘starter’ villages?

Yes. At the moment all characters must live in one of the 3 villages. It’s too dangerous to permanently settle beyond a village’s borders. This may change in the future! Keep an eye out for those changes. Some characters may have been born outside of the starter villages (but still within the area shown on the map) or spend a lot of time outside them, but the world has proven too dangerous for other settlements to take root.
I picked the virtue of courage, does that mean my character has to live in Vhintl?

Nope! You can be any aspect and live in any region/village of your choosing.
Can I have more than one character?

Yep! Everyone starts out with 2 character slots, with more being unlocked through participating in Quests & Events or referring new members.
Can my character have a weapon not on the weapon list?

All new members must start with a starting weapon, however we will accept other weapons not on the list for more experienced characters as long as they make sense in the Zelda universe. All you need is mod approval to go through with crafting a Custom Weapon > v o b
Can my Sheikah be from the Yiga clan?

You can make references to the Yiga! Their name is lost in time but that doesn’t mean their descendants wouldn’t have made it somewhere!
Can my character be a leader of a clan, or a member of a gang?

That depends on the size of the clan/gang! Because villages have small populations in this world, we can't have a PC controlling too large a group of people, so at max your character should only have five or six people. Smaller is better!
Does my character have to be drawn with the clothes/gear they are equipped with?

Nope! For the most part, the gear is mechanical, you are free to design your character however you like, provided they match the general LoZ style! Just make sure you choose gear from the Weapons and Armor lists so we know what stats your character has, regardless of what the design looks like!
Is my character allowed to have a pet?

YES! As long as it isn’t something larger like a mount or beast, a pet is fine! There are certain special creatures that are going to be event rewards as pets, so if going for something that is more uncommon, don’t be afraid to ask the mods!
Does my character have to use the travel mechanic for events/quests not in their village?

If there is a quest/event happening in a village your desired character isn’t in, then yes! Though that’s only for some interactive and RP events. Some quests do not require traveling like art/writing quests.
Can my character both use a job voucher and do their normal rolling job in the same day?

Yes they can! Just make sure to read up on voucher limitations! (Cannot appraise things, cannot use them to craft single items above 5 stamina!
Beekeeper is only in vhintl but my character is visiting rudania. Can I still roll beekeeper tableroll?

Yes, village specific jobs can be rolled in other villages, provided the OC has that as their natural job! This means, you cannot move to another village and keep the job though! A beekeeper may only be a resident of Vhintl! This also does not allow people to spend a job voucher to use the job from another village. A beekeeper can still do their roll in Rudania, but a Rudanian cannot use a voucher to be a beekeeper unless they go to Vhintl!
Can my character with a village exclusive job move to a village that doesn't have that job?

Nope, if you move to another village while having a village exclusive job, you will also have to switch jobs!
Can my character live outside of one of the 3 villages?

No they cannot! They can live near the edges, but they must be within the safety zones, it’s far too dangerous to live beyond them at this time!
Can my character be a nomad and have traveled throughout the 3 villages their whole life?

No, unfortunately not! The roads between villages have only been safe to travel in the last two or three years. While making one trip is possible, if dangerous, repeated trips are simply not possible. Post road opening, it is possible to move between villages, but the character would need a VERY compelling reason to not make roots in at least one village, as the hassle to make such a trip would need a seriously good justification. Likely, we on the mod team would not allow such a character.
Do I have to choose a weapon on the starter list?

Yes. You can later change weapons after purchasing/earning more.
Does my weapon/armor have to look exactly like the BOTW weapons/armor on the list?

Nope! We mostly use the BOTW weapons/armor for their stats and cost! We do ask that you model weapons off of directly existing ones though and keep the name the same so we know what stats your weapon uses. Also consider drawing a reference for your weapon if it looks drastically different, for the sake of your fellow members’ art!
Can my oc have a custom weapon?

Yes, when using our Custom Weapon crafting mechanic! Please get in touch with a mod regarding this!
Are there any villages outside of the three listed?

There are no other known inhabited villages at present. This does not mean they do not exist, but as far as your character is aware, Rudania, Inariko, and Vhintl are the only inhabited areas of Hyrule.
Are tokens or rupees a currency in the group?

No - money does not exist within the setting of Roots. Materials and resources are collected and distributed to the village. Everyone contributes what they can for the survival of the community. Merchants and shops partake in the bartering system for goods. Rupees do exist, but they don't have monetary value in this setting. Tokens are a point system for members. They do not exist within the setting.
Is there an age resitriction on drinking?

As long as there is no depiction of alcohol abuse by minors or minor-appearing persons (kokiri), underage individuals are allowed to consume alcohol.
