Pets and Perk Pets
So you’ve probably seen OCs with birds or remilts and have wondered “How do I get one of these cool lil pals for my own OC?” or maybe you haven’t! Either way this page aims to answer that question and more.

Regular Pets
Even a setting like that of Roots of the Wild wouldn’t be complete without animal companions to keep your OCs company. Thankfully getting regular ol’ pets is as easy as deciding they have one!
So what counts as a regular pet? Most regular animals found in Hyrule that you’d think might count! This includes a wide variety of creatures such as cats and dogs, frogs, lizards, birds, ferrets, rabbits, most domestic farm animals such as cucco and sheep and then some! If you’re unsure if your pet idea qualifies, ask the mod team!
There are of course some hard exceptions to what is allowed. Not everything can be a regular pet, as some of Hyrule’s more unique, rare or larger creatures aren’t so simple to come by. Additionally, smaller and simpler creatures such as snails or insects may simply not qualify.
▹ Some wild animals, like wolves and coyote, are far too wild to ever keep without the proper training and attention, and that would make them Perk Pets! Others, like remlits, are incredibly rare to encounter in the first place!
▹ Animals such as horses, donkey, deer, and mountain goats fall under the Mounts category and must be tamed first. Check the Mounts Page to see the full list!
▹ And lastly, small monsters such as chuchu, keese or walltula simply cannot be kept as pets under normal circumstances. Once obtained through special means, they must be hand raised with care.
Perk Pets

Perk Pets is a feature of Roots of the Wild in which an OC may have specific unique or uncommon pets with the ability to roll in the town hall channels regardless of your OC’s Job!
This category is where you may find the rarer creatures like remlits, small monsters like chuchu and difficult animals like wolves!
How it Works:
Pets gained as Quest, Event or Rolling rewards will come with at least level 1 perks, which will allow them to roll for items!
Each level = 1 Roll per Week (Capped at 3 Levels MAX attainable)
At present, Perk Pets are limited to one per OC!
Perk Training:
Members may also pay for Pet Training in the shops to level up their existing Perks Pets, or add perks to a normal pet! (In story, this will be a result of your OC training them, with the Tokens paid representing that time and effort). Make sure your pet is something that can be trained, as some pets are better suited to training than others. If you aren’t sure about your specific pet, you can ask a mod! Additionally, training levels can only be bought one at a time, starting at the lowest level and going up!
Pets and the Tinglebot
All perk pets have to be entered in the Tinglebot in order for them to roll and get loot! The following details how to place pets into their species and roll-type categories when adding them to your roster.
So how do you officially train your pet? It's easy! Using the Tinglebot, adding a pet happens quickly and simply! By using the command /pet add, you will be able to fill out and upload your pet's profile the same way you'd upload your OCs. The specifics of uploading pets are detailed below! Once your beloved pet is registered in the bot, you can then upgrade them using /pet upgrade. Pets that weren't given through events start at Level 0, and getting them to Level 1 requires 5000 tokens. Level 2 requires 10,000 tokens, and Level 3 requires 20,000. What commands your pet can then roll are determined by its size and abilities!
Species Traits:
Not sure what kind of pet to pick? Here are some examples of species and the unique things they can do based on their instincts, size, and behavior:
Small Canine: (e.g. Fox, Wild Dog) These agile, loyal creatures are great all-rounders. They can hunt small prey, scavenge plants, and even track monsters. Think of them as clever companions for adventurers who do a little bit of everything.
Large Canine: (e.g. Wolf, Wild Hound) More powerful than their smaller cousins, these beasts can bring down large prey, sniff out hidden items, and protect their party with strength and awareness.
Small Feline: (e.g. Jungle Cat, Lynx) These sleek hunters excel at tracking and ambushing prey. They aren’t good for gathering herbs or plants, but they’ll keep your camp rodent-free and alert you to movement in the shadows.
Rodents or Rabbits: While they aren’t hunters, these pets are expert foragers. They can sniff out roots, rare plants, and even herbs others might overlook. They're a great fit for healers or alchemists.
Predatory or Scavenging Birds: (e.g. Hawks, Vultures) These sharp-eyed companions are excellent for tracking prey or finding scraps from a safe distance. Some prefer to swoop in and strike, while others quietly observe and gather useful items.
Caprine and Porcine Species: (Goats, Pigs) While not traditionally “combat pets,” they are fantastic rooters and foragers with surprising intelligence. Pigs in particular can sniff out underground items, and goats are stubborn but reliable climbers.
Chuchu: A rare elemental creature, the Chuchu can generate fire, ice, or electric residue and can be used to gather elemental resources that no other pet can touch. They're not hunters, but their utility is unmatched.
Pet Roll-Types
Once you’ve picked your species, your pet’s “type” determines what kinds of actions and resource rolls they can use. Here are some real examples to help you picture what each pet type means in play:
Explorer: Imagine a clever raccoon-like creature who can gather berries, track small prey, and sense nearby monsters. Explorers are well-rounded pets for curious or roving characters.
Guardian: A big, territorial animal like a large wolf or lion, capable of taking down dangerous beasts and watching over your party while you rest. Guardians are perfect for combat-focused or cautious adventurers.
Forager: Think of a pet goat that spends its day nosing through grass, trees, and dirt looking for edible herbs or mushrooms. A perfect companion for characters focused on survival, cooking, or herbalism
Nomad: A sand seal that glides over dunes, tracks monsters, hunts prey, and roots out rare ingredients. Nomads are flexible and built to roam across all terrains with you.
Chuchu (Elemental): This unique type combines the resource gathering of a forager with the rare elemental residue that only Chuchus can produce. A Fire Chuchu might find scorched wood or emberroot, while an Ice Chuchu could collect frozen berries or frostweed.
Protector: Your small but fierce companion — like a Remlit or Mesopredator — focuses on quick strikes, small prey, and defensive instincts. They may not be the biggest, but they’ll keep danger away from your ankles.
Sentinel: These are elite protectors like a Chain Chomp or powerful bird, capable of both slaying beasts and spotting danger before it reaches the group. Sentinels are the top-tier pet choice for survivalists or warrior types.
Scavenger: Think of a smart pig or vulture that digs up what others leave behind. These pets excel at finding rare, odd, or otherwise missed resources, especially in places where prey is already picked clean.
Tracker: A lean predator like a wildcat or falcon that specializes in finding prey and hunting monsters. Trackers work well with stealthy or bounty-hunting characters.
Perk Pet Rolling and More
Once your pet has been trained, rolling for your pet is as simple as using /pet roll in one of the village townhalls! Your pet roll type will determine which tables your pet can roll from! For example, your pet wolf who rolls as a Guardian has two options: rolling for large prey, or rolling for monsters! Below you'll find information on all the potential pet rolls you will have access to with a perk pet!
lgpetprey: Pet hunts larger game (large pets only)
petforage: Pet forages for plants & misc.
petmon: Pet hunts small monsters & forages for parts
petprey: Pet hunts small game.
petelectricchu: Pet chuchu sheds yellow jellies
peticechu: Pet chuchu sheds white jellies.
petfirechu: Pet chuchu sheds red jellies.
petchu: Pet chuchu sheds jellies.
Chuchus:

Chuchu are one of the few monster pets that are available via an egg item outside of special events! These eggs have a rare chance to be found via rolling tables. All hatched chuchu start at Lv1 with petchu as their only rolling option. This changes to the elemental equivalent upon elemental upgrade.
Unlike other perk pets, Chuchu have the potential to change their element to adapt to the region they live in! The initial change must be instigated via an elemental item. This will be implemented in the TInglebot in the future, so look out for updates!
Once a chuchu is in it's elemental state, it cannot return to the original default form. An elemental chuchu that moves officially to a new region with it's owner will always take on the element of that region.
Pet Retirement and Storage
In the future, you will be able to retire your pet in order to make space for another one. Implementation pending!
