Weather
A unique feature found within the world of Roots is the daily weather system! Every day at 8am EST, Tinglebot posts the day’s weather in each of the #village townhall channels. This weather is generated based on the real time season they occur in, and the conditions that each season might bring on, such as more snow in the winter, and hotter temperatures in the summer. There are a plethora of possibilities across all three villages, some of which are totally unique to their climate!
While most weather has no effect on the regular activities of the group aside from providing writing prompts for roleplay or job flavor, occasionally specific conditions lining up can spawn Special Weather that may indeed impact your OC depending on the variety!
Village Climates
Each village in Roots of the Wild has a Climate that shapes its weather systems.
Rudania
General Climate: Warm and golden, resembling a highland savannah — sunlit grasslands, scattered trees, and seasonal rains, framed by cliffs and warmed by volcanic proximity.
Humidity: Moderate. Enough moisture to support farming, but not overly humid.
Temperature Swings: Warm days, cool nights. Volcanic gusts can create hot, dry spikes.
Terrain Influence: Located in a cliff-surrounded valley between a volcano and a lake. Volcanic soil is highly fertile, creating perfect conditions for crops and livestock.
Seasons
Summer: Sun-drenched and active, with occasional dry heat from volcanic winds.
Winter: Mild and comfortable; rain is more likely than snow. Rare ashfall or cinderstorms occur during high volcanic activity.
Vibe: A place that feels alive with warmth and color, where the land thrives under golden skies and glowing cliffs. Festivals, fire, and fertile soil are at the heart of village life.
Real-World Inspiration:
Ethiopian Highlands (volcanic soil, savannah-like elevation, agriculture-rich)
Central Chile (Andes foothills) (warm valleys, seasonal rains, fertile land)
Kyushu, Japan (volcanic activity, hot springs, cultural vibrancy)
Inariko
General Climate: Cool and alpine, shaped by the cold winds from Mount Lanayru. Built into a steep canyon, the village stays damp and shaded, with river mists and seasonal snow.
Humidity: High, especially near the waterline. Morning fog is common year-round.
Temperature Swings: Stays cool throughout the year, with colder temperatures the higher up the canyon you go.
Terrain Influence: Nestled in an ancient waterway between steep cliffs. Snowmelt and mountain runoff influence river flow, making water central to daily life.
Seasons:
Summer: Cool and misty, with brief warmth carried on western winds.
Winter: Long and snowy. Frequent blizzards and biting wind.
Vibe: A place of stillness, wisdom, and elegance — where the cold carves stone, and every breath is crisp with purpose.
Real-World Inspiration:
Swiss Alps foothills (high-elevation river valleys, alpine forests, snow-heavy winters)
Tohoku Region, Japan (Zao/Sendai areas – snowy mountains, traditional stone architecture)
Pacific Northwest river canyons (mossy forests, misty ravines, hydro-powered towns)
Vhintl
General Climate: Subtropical rainforest — lush, vibrant, and teeming with life. Warm and muggy in the summer, wet and foggy in the winter, with constant humidity and forest canopy rainfall.
Humidity: Extremely high. The forest seems to breathe moisture.
Temperature Swings: Generally stable due to the forest’s insulation. Summers are hot and sticky, winters are cooler but rarely dry.
Terrain Influence: Built into the high canopies of a dense jungle basin. Thunderstorms are frequent due to the convergence of warm sea air and cooler northern winds.
Seasons:
Summer: Hot, humid, and buzzing with insects, storms, and blooming plant life.
Winter: Cooler, but still green. Frequent rain, mist, and eerie lightning storms.
Vibe: A mysterious and magical forest realm, alive with stormlight, fog, and the rustle of wings in the trees. A place that breathes in rhythm with the rain.
Real-World Inspiration:
Philippine tropical highlands (humid monsoons, misty forest mountains)
Chocó Rainforest, Colombia (one of the wettest places on earth, constant storms)
Southeast Asian rainforests (Myanmar, Vietnam highlands — thick jungle, fog, downpours)
Special Weather
As implied, Special Weather is different from the usual rain or shine in that it offers prompts that may affect activity for that day until the next weather post. Oftentimes these are indicators for unique rolling opportunities, but do be cautious! These special conditions may pose risks, and affect travel as well! Checking Hyrule’s weather often will have its advantages.
The most common effect worth noting is Special Weather that prompts a roll command! Any OC regardless of job may participate in these special weather days as long as they're in that village. Your character doesn't have to have a gathering mechanic!
If you already do a daily roll, you may combine it with the special weather roll or do them individually.
To roll on Special Weather, you will make use of the following Tinglebot command:
Special Weather can be rolled once per day, per character provided they are present in the village where the Special Weather is active.
Types of Special Weather
AVALANCHE
Village: Inariko
Requires: Snow or Heavy Snow
Seasons: Winter & Autumn
Hazards: Restricts Travel
A low, echoing rumble gives only seconds of warning before tons of snow crash down the mountainside. Trails vanish, and entire paths become buried in moments. Travel is perilous-unless you’re into snowboarding with a death wish.
BLIGHT RAIN
Village: All
Requires: Rain
Seasons: All Seasons
Hazards: Blight Exposure
The sky weeps more than water. The rain is thick and unnatural, smelling faintly of iron and rot. Wildlife retreats, plants blacken, and even puddles seem to ripple unnaturally. Do not drink it.
DROUGHT
Village: Rudania
Requires: Sunny
Seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn
The sun doesn’t set…it reigns. Day after day of relentless heat turns rivers into cracked beds, crops to husks, and tempers fiery. Shade becomes currency. Rain? A forgotten memory…
FAIRY CIRCLE
Village: All
Requires: Any Weather
Seasons: All Seasons
Perfect rings of mushrooms sprout overnight in strange places-fields, forests, sometimes even rooftops. Folk tales speak of tiny creature dances and time distortion. Some say stepping inside makes you forget your name. Others say it makes you *remember* too much.
FLOOD
Villages: All
Requires: Heavy Rain
Seasons: All Seasons
Hazards: Restricts Travel
The heavens open and the land drowns. Rivers burst, fields vanish, and anything not nailed down floats. Frogs cheer. Everyone else curses wet boots for weeks.
FLOWER BLOOM
Villages: All
Requires: Any Weather
Seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn
Overnight, the world erupts in petals and perfume. Hills blush with color, forests shimmer, and bees throw impromptu raves. It’s beautiful, sure-but beware the pollen count.
JUBILEE
Villages: All
Requires: Any Weather
Seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn
Fish leap from the water like it’s a festival below the surface. Every cast nets a feast, and even cats get cocky. No one knows why it happens-but when it does, supper’s easy.
METEOR SHOWER
Villages: All
Requires: Sunny
Seasons: All Seasons
The night sky shimmers, then streaks with fire. Stars fall like fireworks, leaving trails that dance across the heavens. People make wishes. Some come true. Others... come looking.
MUGGY
Village: All
Requires: Rain, Cloudy, or Fog
Seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn
Air so thick it clings to your lungs. Your clothes stick, bugs buzz in stereo, and everything feels slightly... damp. You may *technically* be breathing soup.
ROCK SLIDE
Villages: Rudania
Requires: Any Weather
Seasons: Winter, Summer, Autumn
Hazards: Restricts Travel
With a sudden crack and groan, boulders tumble down the cliffside. What was a safe pass is now a rubble trap. Miners groan. Mountain goats cheer. Proceed with caution-or a shovel.
